Checkmate is covert operations agency and espionage organization in which is funded and run by the United Nations, though is headed by Maxwell Lord, who acts as the "King".[1]

Paragon Arms Race[]
Checkmate was one of the other espionage agencies attempting to obtain the organs of Paragon, competing with Spyral among other organizations. Having obtain Paragon's hard drive, their main base known as the Black Knight was later infiltrated by Spyral agents Agent 37 and Matron, stealing the hard drive while damaging their base.[2]
Spy Wars[]
Needing backup to fight against the Syndicate, Agent 37 and Agent 1 formerly of Spyral enlist the aid of Checkmate.[3]

- Jetpacks: During Spyral's raid on the Black Knight, they chased Agent 37 and Matron on Jetpacks in an attempt to capture them.[4]
- Paragon's Hard drive (formerly): Checkmate had got a hold of Paragon's hard drive before it was stolen by Spyral.[4]
- Black Knight Checkmate Uniforms: It appears that Checkmate agents on the Black Knight wear a certain uniform.[4]
- Ambiet Tech: This tech allows the usage of construct-like material protecting the wearer as well as creating gauntlets in order to fend off powerful metahumans.[5]

- Checkmate was created by John Byrne and Paul Kupperberg, first appearing in Action Comics #598. However, in the Prime Earth continuity Checkmate first appeared as part of the New 52 DC Universe in OMAC (Volume 4) #2 by Dan DiDio and Keith Giffen.
